PSP News - PS2 our sold both PS3 and PSP last quarter

Well it seem today all over the gaming nes were talking about the Playstation 2 out selling both PS3 and PSP this quarter . And who said PS2 is not fun anymore. Well guess millions of consumers flock this year to buy the PS2 at they’re local retailer .

As part of Sony’s Q1 earnings report the company released both quarterly and annual global sales data for each of the video game systems. In a surprise turn of events the PlayStation 2 managed to outsell both the PS3 and PSP during the quarter and was the only system to have a sales gain when compared to the same quarter last year.

PS3 – 1.1m (1.6m same quarter last year)

PSP – 1.3m (3.7m same quarter last year)

PS2 – 1.6m (1.5m same quarter last year)

You know it, we know it: times are tough. And Sony, Sony definitely know it, with the company’s freshly-released quarterly report highlighting declining sales for both the PS3 and PSP.

But good news first! In the first quarter of the 2008 fiscal year, Sony sold 1.5 million PlayStation 2 consoles worldwide. In Q1 2009? That number was up to 1.6 million! Nice to see a $99 price-point having an effect.
