This is a guide I found online and all credit will go to the creator of this Guide. This Guide is pretty straight forward and will walk you step by step on How to Downgrade PSP Firmware 6.10 and install PSP Custom firmware 5.50 into your PSP .

01. Format the memory stick through the PSP. Format the memory stick through the computer.
02. Download PSP Grader and Unzip. Download Here or Here
03. Download the Official Firmware 5.00 and Unzip. Download Here
04. Connect the PSP through USB.
05. Run the PSP Grader.
06. Load the Official Firmware 5.00 by selecting the download Eboot.pbp. Select the appropriate drive letter for PSP and Click ‘Create Pandora stick’.
07. Disconnect the USB mode on PSP and Turn the PSP off.
08. Hold down the Left shoulder key (L) and then enter the Pandora battery while pushing the battery in.
09. Install the 5.00 M33 Firmware and Reboot the PSP.
10. Take the Pandora battery out and insert the normal battery and Turn on the PSP.
11. Download Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-6 and Unzip. Download Here
12. Connect the PSP through USB.
13. Copy the UPDATE folder and paste it to the PSP\GAME\ folder.
14. Disconnect the USB mode on PSP.
15. On your PSP, scroll to Game and click Memory stick.
16. Click on Update 5.00 M33-6.
17. Install the 5.00 M33-6.
18. Download the Custom_Firmware_5.50_MHU and Unzip. Download Here
19. Copy the UPDATE folder and paste it to the PSP\GAME\ folder. (Delete the previous one before copying this one. OR. Overwrite the existing one).
20. Delete the file named ’sce.pbp’ from the UPDATE folder.
21. Download PSP_Firmware_5.50 and Unzip. Download Here or Here
22. Rename the sce.pbp tp SCE.pbp. (Convert the small letters to Capital letters).
23. Copy and paste to PSP\GAME\UPDATE Folder on the PSP.
24. Disconnect the USB mode on PSP.
25. On your PSP, scroll to Game and click Memory stick.
26. Click on Update 5.50. (Make sure your battery is fully charged)
27. Install the 5.50.
28. Restart the PSP once the update finishes.
29. Click the Select button on your PSP and select ‘UMD ISO Mode’ on the pop up menu.
30. Click the Right directional button and select M33 Driver and press Select again.

Here is a guide That I have found online that will guide you step by step on how to install PSP Custom Firmware on your PSP. Make sure to follow instruction carefully to avoid any issue with your PSP or a brick PSP. Remeber to back up all your flash) files from your PSP just in case something goes wrong you have a away of restoring your PSP back to the way it was.

This is the tutorial guide on how to install PSP CFW 5.50 Gen-C

STEP (1)

preparing the PSP (must have a PSP cfw installed already )

-firstly set the original theme settings->themes -> original

-next DISABLE EVERY PLUGIN you have enable (make sure you reboot AFTER there all turned off )

-it might be an idea to backup your PSN just in case .

STEP (2)

download PSP Custom Firmware 5.50 Gen-C which is about 27mb from here http://www.psp-.tk/psp.php?148 ….

STEP (3)
open the file , extract the entire contents to MS0:\ or K:\ whatever drive letter you have the psp assigned to , it will ask to replace some folders, allow it, and replace any files it asks make sure not to skip anything, All files and folder have to be replace .

STEP (4)

go to GAME->MS->xGEN installer and launch it

STEP (5)

press enter, then choose install 5.50GEN-C make sure its plugged in or has FULL battery.

NOTICE After selecting this you cannot turn back, do not pull the battery, remove power cable, put it too sleep/turn off and so on, just put it on the table and watch!

STEP (6)

Choose reboot X instead of shutdown O but i guess that makes so difference..

check your system info, if all went well you should have 5.50 Gen-C

NOTICE PSPGen recommend wiping flash1 so ensure no compatibility problems, not sure why but follow the link below to do this, i did, and I at the same time while in the recovery menu activated the VSHMENU.

Format Flash1 to restore the default settings

Here is a universal solution to solve most bugs. It is strongly advised to do each update custom firmware to avoid problems. This manipulation (if you follow the tutorial below) is safe! So now you will want to check that all your plugins are working with 5.50GEN-C, if u had 5.50GEN-B2 then it won’t matter too much, But users who upgraded from 5.00 M33 may have some issue with plug in. Is best not to enable them and update them to their latest version for PSP CFW 5.50 Gen-C compatibility .

EDIT: I notice that many people cannot play isos, in this case enable the vsh and change the ISO drivers, the vshmenu MUST be changed, or change the drivers in the recovery mode….
